Rachel Mazer is both a dynamic solo artist and Los Angeles touring/session multi-instrumentalist (saxophone, flute, guitar, bass, keys) whose unique blend of soul, folk, jazz, funk, and indie-pop has earned her a vibrant and diverse musical career. Following the release of her debut album How Do We Get By (2019), which garnered over 3 million streams and attention from Paste Magazine, American Songwriter, and placements on multiple Editorial Spotify Playlists, Mazer has continued to explore her artistry from multiple angles. While her solo career is a central part of who she is as an artist, her skills as a saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist have led her to collaborate (perform, record, or tour with) with a variety of different artists and bands, including Lady Gaga, RAYE,Ariana Grade, Kate Hudson, Men At Work, Toto, Alessia Cara, Googoosh, Lake Street Dive, Cory Wong, Monica Martin, Vulfpeck, Fat Joe, JaRule, Wasia Project, Rick Allen (Def Leppard), and many more.
Far from being a departure from her solo work, Rachel's time as a “hired-gun” in the Los Angeles music scene has enriched her musical life, allowing her to not only have a successful career as a touring and session musician in LA, but also bring new perspectives and influences into her own solo project. She draws from these diverse experiences to inform her songwriting and sound. She is now putting the finishing touches on her second full length album, which showcases her evolution as an artist and human being, and the breadth of her musicality.
For Rachel, her role as a solo artist and her work as a multi-instrumentalist aren’t separate paths—they are two sides of the same coin, each informing and enriching the other. Both are at the heart of her creative journey, and her collaborations only deepen her passion and commitment to making music.
